Air Conditioning Policy
Policy
The Accommodation Committee has considered the University air conditioning policy on a number of occasions. A record of the Committee's deliberations can be found in the minutes of meetings which are available on the web. In brief, the policy is:
- All new buildings, or parts of buildings, subjected to major refurbishment will be air conditioned from the chilled water system.
(Refer to Minutes of meeting 20 April 1995).
- Accommodation that is subject to minor refurbishment (using either Minor Works or departmental funding) need not be air conditioned if this proves to be too costly for the department.
(Refer to Minutes of meeting 20 July 1995).
- Windows of air-conditioned spaces will be locked.
(Refer to Minutes of meeting 21 September 1995).
- Free-standing personal units may be used in some offices up to a maximum of 45m2 (subject to certain conditions), but will not be permitted in laboratories or multi-user areas such as seminar rooms. Approval must be sought from FM Planning and Design and a timer must be fitted by Facilities Management (Refer to Minutes of meeting 17 July 1997).
Any requests for free-standing personal units or requests that require a variation of the policy have to be considered on an individual basis, and should be forwarded to the Executive Officer, Accommodation Planning. |
