Carpet Selection and Maintenance

Policy

Carpets and carpet tiles on the University campus should be functional, easy to maintain, hygienic and durable.

Carpets at the University should be maintained in accordance to Australian Standards 3733 which may be adapted to suit departmental cleaning specifications.

Refer to Carpet Cleaning Maintenance Table outlining daily, weekly/interim and periodic cleaning for carpets depending upon whether there is light, medium or heavy traffic use.

Carpets with heavy traffic use may be shampooed 1) on request from a department or 2) on advice from cleaning staff.

All requests for carpet cleaning will be determined by the Supervisor, Cleaning Operations.

Carpet shampooing will be carried out according to a fixed schedule e.g. 3 years.

Carpets should not be placed in kitchen areas or laboratories where spillage of foodstuffs or substances may occur causing staining.

All floor areas on campus will be recorded on the Facilities Management Space Inventory Database.
