Departmental Cleaning Requirements

Policy

So that cleaning services are administered consistently across the campus, the cleaning needs of each department are outlined on a specified frequency basis.

Contractors who submit tenders for cleaning University buildings or areas and in-house cleaners are provided with information concerning area, type of cleaning required and frequency with which each cleaning task must be performed. This information is contained in the Cleaning Specifications. Specifications cover the following areas:

  • emptying of bins (general and recyclable)
  • white and black boards/overhead transparencies
  • toilets
  • windows - glass partitions
  • floors : wooden, vinyl and carpets
  • entrances, walkways and undercover areas
  • dusting
  • laboratories
  • kitchens
  • doors and walls
  • lecture theatres and seminar rooms

Where departments require a daily cleaning schedule not covered in the specifications a Service Level Agreement can be negotiated with Cleaning Services covering the changes. This can only be done within the constraints of the allocated budget.
