General Solid Waste Disposal
Preamble
The University produces many tonnes of waste each year. Waste such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass (soda), drink cartons and cans are recyclable and non-recyclable waste is removed by contractors and used as landfill.
Policy
For reasons of safety, hygiene and aesthetics, waste is collected from the campus efficiently, effectively and in the least obtrusive manner.
To reduce the amount of waste generated and to reduce the high cost of rubbish disposal, Environmental Services continuously monitors the Waste Management Programme.

|
|
Cleaners |
- Place non-recyclable waste into green 240 litre Sulo bins in their areas.
- Take Sulo bins to nearby collection points.

- The 3 cubic metre bins are used to reduce the number of sulo bins on campus. Each 3 cubic metre bin is equivalent to 13 x 240 litre bins.

Departments |
- Sends T form to Cleaning Services to hire additional bins for special functions.
- For large amounts of rubbish, contact FM Workshop or outside contractors for removal.
- For modest amounts of rubbish too large for sulo bins, arrange for waste to be taken to Car Park 9 where a permanent 3m skip bin is placed.
