Graffiti

Preamble

Graffiti is the unauthorised marking of a surface with words or drawings. Materials such as paint, shoe dye, marker pens or even sharp instruments may be used.

The quick removal of graffiti reduces its effect and minimises the proliferation of visual pollution.

 

Policy

Graffiti found on University buildings and equipment will be reported immediately to the Painting Supervisor of the Maintenance Workshop.

All University Staff
  • Report graffiti to Painting Supervisor x : 2017.
Cleaners
  • If possible immediately remove accessible graffiti found in their area.
  • Report graffiti which cannot be removed to Painting Supervisor of Maintenance Workshop through the Cleaning Supervisor.
  • Report graffiti discovered in other locations to the Cleaning Supervisor.
Supervisor, Cleaning Services
  • Reports graffiti which cannot be removed by Cleaning staff to Painting Supervisor.
Security Officers
  • Report cases of graffiti found during regular surveillance of campus buildings and grounds to Painting section, using standard fax giving exact location, extent of graffiti and time discovered.
Painting Section
  • Take pictures of graffiti tags for possible future investigation.
  • Remove graffiti or contact graffiti specialists if necessary.
