Hard Floor Covering

Preamble

Laying unsuitable floor coverings can prove to be unsafe and expensive. As with their carpet selection, Departments requiring hard floor coverings for areas such as laboratories, wet areas and corridors should take into account, among other factors, the function of the room, wear, slip resistance and ease of maintenance.

Terracotta

Departments are advised to consider carefully the over use of Terracotta tiles in internal and external areas. These tiles chip readily and if not sealed properly, absorb most liquids which may leave permanent staining. This can cause an unsightly appearance that may detract from the area's ambience.

The Supervisor Cleaning Operations can advise on suitable coverings and/or provide the names of established consultants who can help with floor covering requirements.
