Portable Fans, Room Heaters and Air-Conditioners

Policy

In rooms where there is no air conditioning or any fixed heating or cooling device FM will provide one portable desk fan and one portable fan-heater for each staff member assigned to that room. Any additional or non-standard fans or fan-heaters required may be purchased from the FM Workshop store.

Staff members may not use any fan or heater that has not been approved or issued by the FM Workshop Store.

Portable air-conditioners may not be installed without approval from the Executive Officer, Accommodation Planning and must meet the conditions as required by the Air-Conditioning Policy. (Item 8 of the Minutes found at:-) http://www.acs.uwa.edu.au/MINUTES/ACCOMODA/AP19970717/AP19970717.html

In the event that a room or building has air-conditioning installed all portable heaters provided by FM will be recalled and any heaters that are owned by the Department must be removed from the air-conditioned area and used elsewhere.  Windows in air-conditioned zones will be secured closed to protect the operation of the Building Management System.

Fans or fan-heaters will be marked in such a way that clearly shows which ones are owned by FM and which ones are owned by a Department.

Timers

All portable fan-heaters are to be fitted with a 60-minute timer and be limited to a power output of 1500watts. FM will fit a one-hour timer to any portable fan-heater purchased through the store at no cost to the customer.

All portable air-conditioners are to be fitted with a 60-minute timer at the expense of the purchaser and are to be limited to a power output of 3000 watts.

In the event that the portable air-conditioner has a built-in timer that cannot be overridden, this will satisfy the above requirement. Where needed, FM will supply and fit a timer for a portable air-conditioner at no expense to the customer.

Note that the circular exhaust port in the window will be provided by FM at the customer's expense.

Breakdowns

In the event of a breakdown any fan or fan-heater issued or purchased from FM will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the customer.
