Sustainability Operation Action and Policy

Objectives

The Sustainability Operations Action and Policy Group (formally:Climate Change Action Group) is a relevant team of stakeholders within Facilities Management convened to consider sustainability practices and operations carried out at the University, and establish rigidity in the data monitoring regimes and on going identification, prioritisation, implementation, reporting and reviewing of sustainability initiatives. Primarily the Group will be involved with the management and planning in areas of energy, waste, water, transport, ecologically sustainable design and any other sustainability matters deemed important by the Group.

Sustainability
• Minimise the University’s impact on world climate change
• Minimise use of finite resources

Cost savings through:
• Better management of resource use
• Direct reduction in resource use
• Identifying service problems highlighted by energy and water conservation projects
• Identification of, and application for state and federal sustainability funding grants

Social
• Set an example for leadership in sustainability and responsibility toward the environment
• Provide a healthier workplace
• Record and promulgate all sustainability achievements

Role

The SOAP will coordinate an integrated approach to sustainability management in order to achieve the maximum level of benefits in terms of resource savings, improvement of quality in the workplace and ongoing environmental responsibility.

The SOAP will:

• Support the development of a sustainability management action plan
• Prioritise actions
• Identify, evaluate and authorise implementation of sustainability efficient opportunities
• Determine best monitoring, recording and reporting regimes for sustainability data
