Green Office

What is a Green Office?

The Green Office programme engages and educates staff in modifying behaviours and practices for the benefit of the environment. The Green Office implments actions in the areas of WASTE, PAPER, ENERGY, WATER, PURCHASING and TRANSPORT.

A UWA Green Office:

  • Aims to increase recycling and reduce waste
  • Aims to reduce the use of paper
  • Reduces energy consumption
  • Reduces water consumption
  • Aims to purchase environmentally preferred products
  • Aims to encourage staff to use sustainable transport
  • Is educated, engaging and aware of sustainable office management initiatives.

The programme is designed to reduce UWA's impact on the environment and is fully supported by the University Executive.

Green Office is coordinated by UWA Environmental Services and actions are implemented in each office by volunteer Green Office Coordinators and staff.

How do I get my department or Faculty involved in Green Office?

Its easy!

  1. Appoint one or more Green Office Coordinator's for your office.
  2. Do the online Green Office Staff Survey.
  3. Get the Green Office Policy signed off by the highest level person in your area.
  4. Green Office launch for staff organised by Environmental Services.
  5. Implement all of the actions in the Green Office 7 Step Milestone Programme
  6. Develop further Green Office actions for your work area.

What is involved in being a Green Office Coordinator?

A Green Office Coordinator is the integral link between the Environmental Officer coordinating the campus program and work colleagues. A Green Office Coordinator is not time consuming and is very rewarding. The Coordinator role involves:

  • Distribution of communications and promotional material from Environmental Services.
  • Option to attend Green Office workshops.
  • Be the point of contact for work colleagues Green Office suggestions and questions.
  • Input into the Green Office programme.

Green Office Coordinators will need to dedicate a small amount of time per month to ensure the success of Green Office.
