Mobile phone recycling
If you have an unwanted mobile phone sitting in a drawer at home or work then bring it in and recycle it! It is estimated that there are 16 million unwanted mobile phones stored in homes around Australia and only 3% are recycled. Mobile phones do not biodegrade and over 90% of the plastics and metals in phones and accessories can be recovered and used as raw materials to make new products. Mobiles also contain potentially hazardous substances which can harm the environment. Environmental Services have organised to partner in a special recycling program that benefits the Cerebral Palsy Association of Western Australia (CPAWA). Every mobile phone collected will raise funds for CPAWA. The focus of the program is reuse. Mobile phones that can not be reused have their components extracted to be used as spare parts. Older phones that are seriously damaged are sent to recycling. Any remaining materials are sent for disposal in an environmentally friendly manner with licensed recyclers with no materials going to landfill. How to recycle your unwanted mobile phone- Place your phone in the mobile phone recycling box near the Reid Library coffee shop.
