This page will provide you with information about: Recycling in the office at UWA
Recycling on the University campus commenced in 1988 and has now been incorporated in the University Environmental Policy. All staff, kitchens and lecture rooms are required to have commingled recycle bins. Currently only 55% of waste produced in the office is recycled when 90% of the waste is actually recyclable. One important component of the UWA Green Office programme is staff education about appropriate recycling and waste management practices. If your area is not yet a Green Office participant then join now. What is commingled recycling?
All office recycle bins are commingled. That means that all recyclables can be placed in the recycle bin. Non-recyclables (general waste) must not be placed in your recycle bin. Recycle bins are emptied by cleaning staff. Staff recycle bins should not contain plastic bin liners. What can be recycled in an office recycle bin?

Please note that general waste bins are being phased out and replaced with Mini-Bins. The general waste bin is for items that cannot be recycled. Larger bins are available for kitchens. General waste bins are not to be used for hazardous wastes or recyclable items. Mini-Bins Environmental Services will be rolling out the Mini-Bin System across campus. This involves removal of staff general waste bins and replacement with a small desktop Mini-Bin. Staff will still have a recycle bin. Responsibility for emptying the Mini-Bin rests with individual staff. Mini-Bins will be emptied by staff into a main central general waste bin located in a staff kitchen or foyer. The aim of the Mini-Bin System is to increase recycling rates. A Mini-Bin trial was successful in the Motorola building with Facilities Management, Human Resources and IT Services staff. 240L Wheelie bins for recycling Large recycle bins can be provided for clean-ups, moves and print rooms wherea lot of recyclable material is to be disposed of.
