Public Transport

Staff and students may complain about it, but the simple fact is that public transport to UWA is pretty good.  Good enough for the approximately 35% of UWA students and 10% of staff that use it every day to get here at least.

If you live in Perth or Northbridge, the Western Suburbs or on the CircleRoute (98 and 99) then you can most likely catch a bus direct to UWA from close to home.  If you live elsewhere in Perth then you will need to catch the bus or train to Perth City and transfer to a bus to UWA.

All of these buses stop on Stirling Highway at the north end of the main UWA campus, except for the 97 (Subiaco Shuttle) that stops at the north end of Fairway.

Fom 2007 onwards, UWA Students require a Tertiary SmartRider to be able to purchase concession fares. These are available from UWA Campus News and Gifts in the Guild Village, or from any authorised SmartRider outlet. You can access information by clicking, on registering your SmartRider, once purchased, to receive your concession.

For students especially, public transport is MUCH cheaper than driving a car.  It may take a bit longer, but it is a relatively painless experience compared to trying to find a Yellow Permit parking space or paying $5 a day for pay-parking.

For staff who live close to UWA the economic advantages of public transport are marginal if you would own the vehicle you currently drive to UWA regardless of changing to public transport.  If public transport helps you not have to own your car (or second family car), then the savings are much more significant, running to thousands of dollars each year.

Staff who live further away from UWA, and who drive large fuel inefficient vehicles, will make larger savings by using public transport.
