The University of Western Australia, a member of the Australian “Group of Eight” research universities, is one of Australia's leading research universities. The Facilities Management Division at The University of Western Australia is responsible for the development and management of The University’s buildings and facilities to ensure its continuing position as a world leading tertiary education and research institution. In alignment with business improvement practices currently under development within The University, UWA has recently undertaken a review of its business systems and processes to comply with the latest probity requirements, to maximise efficiencies and to provide value for money to The University. As a result of this review, The University has developed a register of Consultants and Contractors able to supply works and professional services that is known as The Panel that are pre-qualified to quote for general estate works and building works. The University’s approach is designed to encourage Consultants and Contractors to commit to long-term continuous improvement and to achieve outstanding performance in the delivery of building and construction related projects and service and maintenance works. For Contractors and Consultants there is increased exposure to business opportunities under The Scheme and the opportunity to develop longer-term relationships with UWA. The Panel process which has been developed in response to this approach also ensures continued compliance with applicable procurement standards.
